Exciting News...
Knock GC has had great news this week when we found out our golf course was a new entry into N. Ireland's top 25 golf courses. We entered the list for the first time at number 22.
The Top 100 Golf Courses is the only independent website dedicated to the best courses in the world. On their site they regularly review and re-order the courses.
I must admit I don't agree with all the listings, but its always going to be open to debate. Personally It's great to see Knock on the list for the first time and with the club investing in new machinery we strive to climb up the list in future years.
Winter Play
You will be aware of the exceptional period of wet weather that we are currently experiencing. Despite the substantial amount of investment in drainage and sanding this has led to heavy underfoot conditions and the need to restrict the use of buggies which is unfortunate for those who depend on their use for play.
Holes 3 and 5 need some urgent and specific additional work to improve their condition. To allow this to proceed as quickly as possible, the council and the winter league committee has agreed to a temporary closure of these two holes and a re-ordering of the remaining 16 for play during the week and at the weekends. These new arrangements will come into effect on Friday, 4 December. The revised order of play will be:
On Saturday only = 17, 14, 4, 15, 6, 7, 2 and 16. The loop for those starting at the 1st will remain unchanged.
All other days it will be 1, 2, then 6 through to 13, 14, 4, 15, 16, 17 and 18.
My Woolly Hat comp on Wednesdays will be played over the following holes = 1, 2, 6 through to 14, 4, 15 and 16.
It sounds complicated but it works out really well! Let's hope for some dry weather to get back to normal. As always pop into the pro shop and ask any questions
This week at the club...
Once again the wet weather has taken its toll on the club competitions. Week Five of the Winter League was a washout and only a few brave souls played on Saturday. The Pro Sweep was won by the bang in form Micheal Crooks with 33 points and he was the only player with a two on his card also paying out £12.00. So rich reward for playing sir!
The ladies 12 hole stableford on Tuesday was also a wash out with the course closed! Below is a few photos of how heavy the rain has been this week (bunker right of 16th and surrounding areas).
Woolly Hat
The Woolly Hat this week was over the back nine holes played on temporary greens. The winner with a huge 24 points was Don McKeeman second place went to George Reid who had 22 points he won this on the better back six holes. Don Wright Snr managed the only two and collected a whopping £22 for his efforts. All monies have been added to pro shop accounts. Many thanks to those who supported the Woolly Hat this week!
