Pro Sweep
The dry weather at the weekend encouraged many golfers to play in my Pro Sweep. The entry was the biggest of the winter so far hence the extra placing and the increased prize fund, so thank you to everyone who played!
The big winner was plus one handicapper Michael Sinclair who had 37 points (six under gross) he beat second placed Micheal Crooks on the better back six holes. Third place was picked up by Simon Swail also on 37 points (he was pipped on the better back nine) and fourth place went to Gareth Howes on 36 points on the better back nine. Chris FIGJAM Branigan collected the best gross with a 61 (-1) and the twos club paid out £9. All monies have been added to pro shop accounts.
It was nice to see Micheal Sinclair and Simon Swail in the prizes this week, both players have been having a series of lessons with me over the last few months and the hard work is paying off. Congratulations to both! If any reader is wondering what FIGJAM stands for you will have to ask Chris!
Ladies Stableford
This weeks the ladies 12 hole stableford competition was won by Alison Sinnamon with 24 points, Ann Mcivor picked up second place with 23 points and Helen Knight took third place with 22 points on the better back six from Sharon Crozier. Ann Mcivor and Sharon Crozier had the only twos paying out £17.50 each and all monies have been added to pro shop accounts. A reminder that ladies are very welcome to play in the weekend sweep which is a 16 hole stableford running from Friday to Sunday.
Men's Woolly Hat
This week's Men's Woolly Hat was won by Robin Pooke with a rather impressive 34 points over the 14 holes. Second place was picked up by David Brown on 29 points who pipped Tom Hughes also 29points on the better back nine. The twos pot paid out £8 each and all monies have been added to pro shop accounts. It's nice to see Tom Hughes in the prizes again, his new Titleist irons are obviously working well.
Ladies Woolly Hat
The Ladies Woolly Hat was won this week by the ever steady Alison Sinnamon with 24 points. Elaine Hanna snatched second place with 20 points on the better back three from Aileen Wilson. All monies have been credited to pro shop accounts. Congrats to winners and remember the Ladies Woolly Hat runs each week from Friday to Thursday.
Winter League
Week four of the Winter League actually took place as we had enough people playing this week to make it count. Each week we have a quorum of 120 players needed for it to stand. The results were as follows:
Low section - First place - Johnny Wright (40 points), second place - Micheal Sinclair (37 points), third place - Don Wright Knew (37 points) and in fourth place - Stephen Finlay (37 points). Mid section - First place - Micheal Crooks (38 points), second place - Simon Swail (36 points), third place - Don McKeeman (35 points) and in fourth place - Joe McGuire - (35 points). High section - First place - Colin Petrie (35 points), second place - Frank Kirk (35 points), third place - Norman Johnston (34 points) and in fourth place - Paul Bryans (34 points).
Congratulations to all prize winners and what a score from Johnny Write! The first 40 pointer of this year's Winter League! The twos pot paid out £14 each and all monies have been added to pro shop accounts.
The greenstaff have been busy again this week...
Below are pictures of the bunker reconstruction going ahead at the 8th hole. This is to primarily help with the drainage in and around the 8th green and also to increase the playability and aesthetics of the hole.
Ulster PGA Winter Alliance
On Monday I travelled to Spa Golf Club for the Ulster PGA Winter Alliance, the under-estimated course, and we were put through very long and heavy rain for the last eight holes. However I did manage to get the head down to shoot 73 (+1) and finish in fifth spot, again only a few putts away from top spot. I'm looking forward to the next three venues all of which are Links courses. Pictured is my team at Spa. From left to right we have Harry Mckee, Simon Swail and Colin Mckeown... Believe me they didn't have smiles like that by the 18th haha.
