Competition news

Agony for Senior Cup Team ...

You couldn't write the script at Carton House this weekend. Knock beat Munster champions Limerick in the all-Ireland semis to advance to the final against Maynooth University. The final went down to the last hole of the last match and unfortunately went the way of Maynooth with the uni students winning 3 - 2. Team captain Chris Moutray was so proud of his team and the way they performed on the big stage. It was a brilliant effort by the boys. Special thanks again to the Ulster Bank for sponsoring the teams garments for the finals. The boys looked great and I know they felt great wearing it.

Other Competition News...

The last of the official club competitions took place this weekend with the final Club Sweep. The winner with 42 points was Steven Hilditch winning on the better back nine from Jonathan Montgomery who took the gross prize instead with a brilliant 68 on hollow tined greens. Tha Anno Domini went to Ronnie Andrews with 36 points. The twos club paid out £13.40 and all monies have been paid onto your pro shop accounts.

The 2015 Order of Merit was won by Ryan McCrory with 396 points, James Rodgers came in second only three points behind and David Cook was third. The Anno Domini Order of Merit was won by Don Wright Snr. That's back to back titles for Don.

A reminder that the Wednesday Sweep and Hat are still running and my Sunday Sweep is open to all men, ladies and juniors and runs all day Sunday.

Ladies Results

The ladies played an 18 hole strokeplay tournament on Tuesday with the ever steady Heather Ward picking up first prize with Lynn Anderson in second and Joan Sinclair third. There were three twos recorded by Paula Ellis, Susan Craig and Joanne Greggan each paying out £13 each which has been added to your pro shop accounts! Congratulations to all winners.

Winter League

The winter league entry forms are now out. The entry is £20 which includes a scrumptious three course meal at the end and to cover the costs for the major prizes at the end. Entries can be made in the pro shop.

Maintenance Update

The winter maintenance is all over and due to the favourable weather this week the greens have improved greatly. Match and handicap convenors have decided that this weekend's pro sweep will be handicap qualifying and weather permitting this will extend into October.

Pros news

PGA Tankard Finals

Tankard FinalsLast Thursday Heather Ward and John Thomson joined me at Ballycastle to compete in the PGA Tankard Finals. (Also pictured is Jill McDoanald from Blackwood) Although the weather was horrific we had a very enjoyable day. I would like to thank Heather and John for the round.

On Tuesday I travelled to St Patrick's Golf Club to compete in the last leg of the PGA Summer Masters series I shot 70 to come second on the day and secured the Mini Order of Merit title. It was a case of job done and I was delighted with my consistency over these events.
