An interview with our PGA Assistant Professional Nicky Grant Question 1 : What do you miss most about the club during this lockdown? I really enjoy my job and therefore don’t see myself when I'm in the Pro Shop as “working”. I am very lucky to do what I do, so personally I miss not being around the facility and seeing all the members and other staff. I really miss all the funny stories members tell me, it always gives me chuckle.
Question 2 : Your favourite hole at Knock and why? My favourite hole at Knock is the 15th. In my opinion, the tee shot through the trees is magnificent. The green is the most undulating on the course and it’s guarded by 3 deep bunkers. Back when I represented Knock in Senior Cup and B&D it was always the hole I couldn't wait to play. The crowds always gathered at this hole which provided a wonderful atmosphere.
Question 3 : When we do get back to ‘normality’ what’s the first thing you will do at the club? As cheesy as it sounds I will probably just smile driving through the gates. It will be great to get back to normal. I will have a sneaky putt on the putting green too.
Question 4 : Has this time away from golf increased your appetite to play more? I have been hitting some balls in lockdown just keeping the swing somewhat fresh. I was playing a little bit before lockdown and my appetite then was starting to increase, so I am extremely excited to get to play again on the golf course. I can’t wait to make that next birdie.
Question 5 : Apart from playing golf what else have you missed about the club? I generally miss the laugh you get with all the members. I have missed not being able to help members understand their issues, teaching the junior squads and actually miss not seeing Mouts with his head in the flowerbeds haha!
Question 6 : Name your dream Fourball It would have to be Tiger, Jack Nicklaus (who I was named after) and Seve.
Question 7 : What have you been doing in lockdown? Lockdown has been crazy busy for me, trying to keep the mind active. I completed my Final Exams for my PGA Qualification (Sport Science Screening Exam, which is essentially Biomechanics). I’m now awaiting my results which will be published in June. I have cut my grass several times, planted many new plants, painted my hall and stairs, kitchen/diner and all the inside doors, started baking for the first time I made cookies and cake and started reading a new book called UP by Ben Fogle (so far a great read). I have also been sunbathing, hopefully, the weather we are having is not going to be our summer weather. I hope everyone is keeping busy, trying something new and embracing this lockdown. There will never be another opportunity for us all to have this amount of free time so make the most of it. I'm looking forward to seeing you all back in the Pro Shop in the near future.
