Captain's Day take two

The sun came out last weekend for a relieved Peter Truesdale (Mr Captain) to have a brilliant Captain’s Day. Pictured below is Peter with a fourball of young guns Lee Mitchell, Andrew Finlay, Jonathan Finlay and Robbie Davidson.

Open Week is in full flow

As I write this newsletter the sun is out and Open Week is in full swing. Why not arrange for a few friends, colleagues etc to book a tee time over the weekend? We have Ladies and Gents Open Stableford on Friday and Men’s Open Stableford on Saturday, there is still a few times available for both. Listed below is results from Open Week so far:

Thursday 9 Hole competition

A reminder that you can enter a nine-hole handicap qualifying at any time every Thursday. It is open to all members with a GUI handicap. I was asked about this type of competition by many members but entries have been low. Get in touch or book a tee time.

Lost your groove?

Much like the tyres on your car, there comes a time when the grooves on your wedges have worn away so much that they need replacing. This process occurs slowly over time and is something that you might not notice at first glance, but when the wear becomes apparent it can have serious consequences on your game.

Fresh vs worn grooves

It might seem a little extreme, but the graphic above illustrates the impact worn grooves can have on shots into greens - a lower ball flight that rolls out farther compared to a wedge with fresh grooves.

Yes, you might be able to adapt by pitching the ball shorter and letting it roll out, but when you don't have much green to work with or are playing a delicate shot worn grooves will be of no use.

What do we suggest?

If dirt, grit and water have visibly harmed your wedge face, it’s time to get your groove back with a new wedge set-up.
