Competition news

Victory Cup Qualifying

Last week was an 18-hole Strokeplay event with the top 16 qualifying for the Victory Cup. The draw is on the noticeboard.

The overall winner with a fine 65 (gross 68) went to Matthew Gibson, runner up Matthew Welsh 68 beat third-placed Glenn McKitterick and fourth-placed Ryan McCrory on countback with all three-shooting nett 68s. Fifth prize with 69 went to Sam Gilmer. The best gross went to James Patterson 70 (level) and Norman Johnston took the Anno Domini prize with a 71.

The twos paid out £19.86.

Sunday Sweep
Sunday, 2 June

Richard Lucas was the big winner this week with 37 points, he pipped runner up Robbie Davidson (also 37pts) on countback. Nigel Graham took the third prize with 35 points on countback.

The twos club paid out £5.60 each and all monies have been added to your Pro Shop accounts.

Ladies ILGU Medal

The ladies Tuesday ILGU Medal Strokeplay event was affected by the heavy rains. The hardy winner was Lynne Anderson with a fine 73, whilst the runner up Katie Poots finished with a 76. Jill Adrain took home £15.00 for recording the only two of the day. Great score Lynne on the day!

Junior Cup team qualify

Congrats to Darren Allen’s Junior Cup team who qualified comfortably at Donaghadee Golf Club last Sunday, they now face Royal Belfast at the same venue. keep an eye on the noticeboard for dates.

Thursday 9 Hole competition

A reminder that you can enter a nine-hole handicap qualifying at any time every Thursday. It is open to all members with a GUI handicap. I was asked about this type of competition by many members but entries have been low. Get in touch or book a tee time.

Knock earns the highest rating

We all know that our caterer Bob and his team are fantastic, and this was rewarded when we as a club received the 5 Star Hygiene Award. Great food produced in a great kitchen is a fantastic combination.

Open Week 2019

Open Week starts on Sunday, 23 June (see below what’s on each day). Why not arrange a fourball and bring some guests, friends, past members? Remember if a golfer you know doesn’t have an official handicap you can still bring them along to play (they just can’t win a prize).

Open Week is a great chance to showcase the course and to generate income. Go online or give me a call on 028 904 83825 in the Pro Shop.

Course news

Become a short game wizard

The Practice Ground is really starting to take shape. As you play the 9th you will see that the short game area to the right is now looking a lot tidier. We are making the surface play like the course.

Lee and his team have been gradually reducing the height of the cut to match the fairways and the surrounds, by the end of the month it should be the same as the course. You can now cover all aspects of the short game from bunkers, lob shots and to chip and runs.

Junior Golf Camps

Here at Knock Golf Club, we value the importance of growing the game in the next generation. Our Junior Camps give kids the chance to learn about golf in a relaxed environment with other kids their age. We will run through the basics of putting, chipping, full swing and some fundamental movement skills helping overall co-ordination. Our Junior Camps will run in July and August with the available dates below:

July:
- Wednesday, 3 and Friday, 5 (4-6 years old) 10:00am - 12:00pm

- Monday, 8 and Tuesday, 9 (7-10 years old) 10:00am - 1:00pm

- Wednesday, 17 and Friday, 19 (11-14 years old) 10:00am - 1:00pm

August:
- Monday, 5 - Tuesday, 6 (over 14s) 10:00am - 1:00pm

- Monday, 26 and Tuesday, 27 (open to all) 10:00am - 1:00pm

Two-day camps are only £30 per child.

Time for a little reflection

Who doesn’t love the month of June? Long evenings, blistering sunshine (might be a little optimistic here) and plenty of opportunities to hit the course. With much of the season left to go and more competitions on the horizon, it’s time to take note of how you’ve been playing so far this year.

Scenario 1

Hopefully, you've been playing regularly to your handicap or, better still, shooting under it. If that’s the case then happy days, keep up the good work!
