Competition news

Harry Flannigan Trophy

Last weekend was an 18-hole Stableford Competition with Paul Jackson topping the pile with 40 points. Second to fifth prize winners all shot 39 points and has to be separated on the countback with Ciaran Dinsmore second, Neil McGread third, Ryan McCrory fourth and Raymond Caskey fifth. The best gross went to Jonny Linter 70 (level and the Anno Domini was won by Norman Johnston with 37 points.

Cat 1 BB9 - Michael Cahoon- 20 points

Cat 2 winner - Marc Lawson- 37 points
Cat 2 BB9 - Peter Law - 22 points

Cat 3 winner - Paul Hylands- 39 points
Cat 3 BB9 - Sam Gilmer- 18 points

Brian Long was the big winner in the twos club as he hit the jackpot at the 16th when he recorded a hole in one picking up £160, meaning the twos club paid out £4.57. Congratulations to Brian.

Sunday Sweep
Sunday, 26 May

Chris Mawhinney won this week’s competition with a superb 42 points. Runner up with 38 points went to Paul Stewart and Matt Gibson third beat fourth-place Bertie Long on countback, both shooting 34 points.

The twos club paid out £10.00 each and all monies have been added to your Pro Shop accounts.

Captains Prize to the ladies

The second and final round took place on Tuesday with Jill Adrain taking the Captains Prize with 70 points over the 36 holes. Second prize with 65 points went to Heather Ward who beat third-placed Sharon Crozier on countback (also 65 points). The best gross went to Alison Sinnamon 43 points.

The seniors march on!

Congrats to Phil Davidson and his Senior Cup team on qualifying for the Senior Cup Match Play stage. We now play Shandon Park at Shandon on Sunday, 30 June.

It's set to be a cracking match to watch so put the date in the diary.

Our Hon Sec going that extra mile

You will see this week the hard work Tom Reid (Hon Sec) has put into making the club look a little better. I snapped him hard at it! The planters look great.

Open Week 2019

Open Week starts on Sunday, 23 June (see below what’s on each day). Why not arrange a fourball and bring some guests, friends, past members? Remember if a golfer you know doesn’t have an official handicap you can still bring them along to play (they just can’t win a prize).

Open Week is a great chance to showcase the course and to generate income. Go online or give me a call on 028 904 83825 in the Pro Shop.

Junior Golf Camps

Here at Knock Golf Club, we value the importance of growing the game in the next generation. Our Junior Camps give kids the chance to learn about golf in a relaxed environment with other kids their age. We will run through the basics of putting, chipping, full swing and some fundamental movement skills helping overall co-ordination. Our Junior Camps will run in July and August with the available dates below:

July:
- Wednesday, 3 and Friday, 5 (4-6 years old) 10:00am - 12:00pm

- Monday, 8 and Tuesday, 9 (7-10 years old) 10:00am - 1:00pm

- Wednesday, 17 and Friday, 19 (11-14 years old) 10:00am - 1:00pm

August:
- Monday, 5 - Tuesday, 6 (over 14s) 10:00am - 1:00pm

- Monday, 26 and Tuesday, 27 (open to all) 10:00am - 1:00pm

Two-day camps are only £30 per child.

1 gap, 3 options

The term 'gapping' is commonly used to refer to the yardage distance between each of the wedges in your bag. We want to break this thought process and get you to think about gapping for your entire set, because any unequal gaps between clubs will have a detrimental impact on your game.

Gapping at the top end

One part of your set that needs careful consideration is how you transition from your irons into your woods. Lots of golfers struggle to hit their longer irons and instead opt for a replacement hybrid or driving iron, which can lead to large gaps between clubs if you're not careful.

So, what's the solution? Well, take advantage of our services and professional advice, and we'll make sure you have the perfect club/s to fill any gaps at the top end of your bag.

What are your options?

TaylorMade recognised the problem that many golfers have in this area and brought GAPR to market to help them fix it.
