Club news

Social events at Knock

This is Big Band weekend and we are looking forward to a full house on Saturday, 28 April. Supper from 7:15pm to 8:15pm and music from 9:00pm to 11:30pm.

If you are coming to the club over the weekend, remember the road is being resurfaced and leave plenty of time.

It is really great to see members and their families and guests enjoying our excellent catering and bar facilities and regular club events. Booking is already well under way for Saturday, 12 May visit by the fabulous Diva Dolls and the One Club BBQ takes place on Friday, 25 May. All bookings on 90480915.

If you have recently joined Knock or just don't make full use of the facilities, please come and join us in the clubhouse. Remember it is your club.

Greenkeepers' news

Course update

The green staff are working hard to prepare a golf course in between the heavy showers... pictured is our first green getting cut. It’s nice to see stripes appearing around the place. You will notice a lot of fertiliser in use to help the grass to grow. Comments from the Hat on Wednesday night was that the course is really coming along quickly... it’s easy to forget the horrific weather we have experienced.

Also pictured is the 18th green very early on Wednesday morning getting sunlight! This was the main reason for taking some trees away to the right of the green (as you play it). It was usually in the shade for most of the day. Good job and it will make a difference!

Sunday Sweep Results

First place - Ross Latimer (38 points) and in second place - John Ashenhurst (37 points).

The twos club paid out £4 and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts .

Hilditch Cup

The ladies section played for the Hilditch Cup on Tuesday with Lynne Anderson returning 36 points to snatch the trophy. Runner-up was Susan Craig (34 points) and Hill Adrian came third on the countback on 33 points (from Hilary Graham). The twos club paid out £13.30 and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts.

Michael Rooney Trophy

The Michael Rooney Trophy was played for last weekend an 18 hole stableford competition. The overall winner with a brilliant 43 points went to Brian Andrews, second place to John Johnston and third place to David Bennett (both shooting 39 points). Fourth placed Harry McKee (38 points) pipped fifth placed Johnny Finlay on the countback.

The best gross with 68 (-2) went to Simon Miskelly and the Anno Domini prize went to Bob Bradford with 35 points.

Category One Winner - Gary Boyd (37 points).
Category Two Winner - Chris Cairns (38 points).
Category Three Winner - Mark Lindsay (36 points).

The twos paid out a healthy £16.81 and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts.

Sharpen your short game at Knock GC...

With the weather on the turn hopefully this is the start of the course drying out. Apart from your putter your next most used clubs is the wedges. To be able to drop and stop on firmer greens, good quality grooves really does make a difference. Pictured below is a selection of the latest wedges I have in stock. Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland and TaylorMade wedges with the latest soft faces and ‘spiny’ feel. Pop in and have a look or even come and try in our Swing Studio. There is a reason Tour Pros change wedges every 3 - 4 weeks (some every week). Once you find the ones you like it’s very important to be gapped correctly.

Urethane cover? So what...

A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common…

Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV
Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials.

Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots.

However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative.
