Competition news

Sunday Sweep Results

First place - Trevor Watty (39 points), second place - Andy Jones (38 points) and in third place - Rory Bennett (37 points, BB9).

The twos club paid out £8.50 each and all prize winnings have been added to your pro shop accounts.

Tankard Event

The first Tankard of the year was played for on Saturday, 7 April over 16 holes (the course was unfortunately closed on the Friday due to flooding). Paul Jackson ran out the winner on the countback with a fine 37 points, he pipped second placed Sam Gilmer also with 37 points. Third place went to Frank Mallon (35 points) on the countback from Stephen Rogan, fourth, and Wally Anderson fifth all recording 35 points. The best gross went to Michael Sinclair with a -2 (60) and Brian Ross snatched the Anno Domini prize with 33 points. Full results were as follows:

Category One (handicap 0 - 9) - Tim Linter - 34 points.
Category Two (handicap 10 - 17) - Rory Caithness - 35 points.
Category Three (handicap 18+) - Harry McKee - 33 points.

The twos club paid out a whopping £18.25 each and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. A big congratulations to Paul Jackson on his victory, it was a good job you didn’t arrange to come and see me...

Junior Competition Results (16 holes)

First place - Scott McOuat (36 points) and in second place - Jarrid Magee (32 points).

Stableford Event

The first Open Stableford of the year was played on Thursday, 5 April with Kevin Taggart taking the spoils with 36 points. A reminder that a Men’s and Ladies Seniors' Open Stableford will be played the first Thursday in every month with an Open Stableford being played every other Thursday in the month.... why not arrange a four ball for a few friends/visitors to come and play a game? It’s great value for money and a chance to pick up a prize. Call the pro shop to book a tee time or just go online to book.

Ladies 18 Hole Stableford - Tuesday, 10 April

First place - Ann Spence (37 points), second place - Ann Morrison (28 points, BB9) and in third place - Sharon Crozier (28 points).

Christine Owens scooped £28 for recording the only two of the day. Congratulations to all the winners and all winnings have been added to your pro shop accounts.

Special Prize

Due to the course closure last weekend we are going to run the competition to win a trip to Turkey this weekend instead. A goodie bag with information will be handed out on the day with all the details, but in the meantime click here to see our promotional poster. Good luck to all the competitors

Hat competition every Wednesday

Just a reminder that the Hat competition has now started. It was great to see over 70 people playing in it this week. The Hat is now open to men and ladies to compete in with some great prizes on offer each week including closest the pins and the twos club (paying out as balls). Why not arrange a game or if you're on your own I can hook you up with a game no problem at all. What better way to split the week up than a relaxed game of golf and a bit to eat off Bob's Hat menu.

Recently, you may have seen a few requests in our weekly emails asking you to create your golfing profile or confirm your email address for GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) purposes.

As you might be aware, GDPR is new legislation coming into effect at the end of May, so we are taking the opportunity now to update your details. Not only does this give us the chance to confirm that we have your correct information, but it also provides us with the ability to personalise your weekly emails to suit your golfing preferences. If you have not yet updated your details, please do so now. It will take you less than a minute.

Social Events at Knock

There is now a waiting list for the PM Big Band night on Saturday, 28 April. If you have booked, please confirm the numbers at your table with the caterer on 90480915 to ensure that we can accommodate as many as possible for this excellent evening's entertainment.

It is Fun Sunday on Sunday, 15 April. Relax with a delicious meal from Bob's kitchen while the children have a great time - face painting, bouncy castle etc.

Looking further ahead, one not to miss is the return of the Diva Dolls on Saturday, 12 May. This all girl group brings a night of sparkling cabaret, music and dancing.

The ever popular One Club BBQ returns on Friday, 25 May.

Don't forget Friday night is Curry Night. Great value at only £10 for two courses.

I really enjoyed watching the top Pros last week on the practice putting green at Augusta. You would have noticed all sorts of putting aids being used to help improve strike, stroke, tempo and alignment to name a few. Pictured is a few practice aids I would recommend to everyone. No penalty

Golf can be a frustrating game at the best of times, but incurring a penalty stroke when you’ve accidentally done something wrong seems very unfair, especially when that one stroke could be the difference between getting a handicap cut or not.

Current Rules
Under the current Rules of Golf, if you accidentally nudge your ball while addressing it you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace it (18-2). The only exception relates to if it is accidentally moved in the process of marking it. In this case, it must be replaced and there is no penalty (20-1).

New Rules from 2019
The new proposed rule (13.1c) states there will no longer be a penalty for accidentally causing your ball to move on the green and you must replace it on its original spot.
