Welcome to this week's newsletter from Knock Golf Club. I stumbled across a photo of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth when they were younger this week. I wonder if they ever dreamt of winning back-to-back Major golf championships?

They have very similar stories and very similar work ethics, both have only ever had one coach (similar to Jason Day and our very own Rory) have a great mental attitude, and commit to every shot when the pressure is on. Justin's tee shot at the 17th on Sunday will probably win shot of the year..... pure commitment and talent.

One of the slogans on Pete Cowan's Swing Studio is Decision, Commit and Execute and the very best certainly do all three... Do you?

The 2017 Club Championship

Our Scratch Medal Club Championship will be played over two Saturdays... Saturday, 2 August and Saturday, 9 August. The Championship is open to nine handicapped players and below. The lowest 36 hole gross score will be crowned the Club Champion and take home the Scratch Medal. There will be prizes for best nett scores and also best second round gross. Entry fee will be £5... let's hope many players take part.

Fitzhugh Trophy Mixed Competition

A reminder that the Fitzhugh Trophy MixedCcompetition will be played this Sunday, 20 August from 12:00pm. You can book times online or give me a buzz at the pro shop.

Junior Competition Results - Thursday, 10 August

First place - Lee Mitchell (38 points) and in second place - Robbie Davidson (32 points). 

Team Success for the Balmoral Cup Team

In the second leg of the Semi Final the KGC Balmoral Cup team defeated Cairndhu 6.5 to .5 at Knock to win 9.5 to 4.5 overall. The team will now play Dunmurry in the final in the coming weeks.

Captain's Cup Mixed Results

First place - David and Pauline Cook (39 points) and in second place - Gerry and Linda McWhinney (38 points).

The twos club paid out £36 per two.

Sunday Sweep Results

First place - James McVicker (40 points), second place - Darren Miskelly (40 points), third place - Philip Green (37 points) and in fourth place - Michael Magill (37 points).

The twos club paid out £10.50 each and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. All categories of membership are welcome to enter the Sunday Sweeps and are all handicap qualifying events.

August Monthly Tankard Results

Overall Winner - George Lighttbody (45 points).
Best Gross - Michael Sinclair - 68 (-2).
Anno Domini Prize - Tom Wilson - 40 points.

Category One - First place - Trevor Gilliland (41 points) and in second place - Ben Graham (41 points).
Category Two - First place - Chris Hill (39 points) and in second place - Brian Best (38 points).
Category Three - First place - Maurice McKensie (35 points) and in second place - Ryan McGread (35 points).
Category Four - First place - Alan Skates (41 points) and in second place - Robert Johnston (38 points).

The twos club paid out £17.54 each and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. The CSS for Friday and Saturday was 71.

Ladies ILGU Medal Results (16 holes)

First place - Jackie Sloan, second place - Jill Kennedy and in third place - Sharon Crozier.

Jill Brown snatched the loot with the only two paying out £29.
