Balmoral Cup

The Knock's Balmoral Cup team moved into the Quarter Final of the competition with a comprehensive victory over Ormeau. This competition is played in an Ulster Cup format but players must be over 60 years of age. Knock will now play either the winners of Moyola or Helens Bay.

Junior Coaching

Last week I hosted a golf clinic for a local 'brownies' group. 16 enthusiastic young golfers turned up and great fun was had. If you know any young golfers who would like to give golf a try why not bring them up to the club and show them the sights. You can borrow any equipment you may need.

Pro's Tip

The transition from the top of the backswing is part of the swing I'm always asked about. Pictured below is a great image of a person skimming a stone into the sea. This sequence of events is exactly the same as a functional golf swing. Simple thoughts for a complex movement. 'Trail' basically means 'right'.

• Trail shoulder rotating externally
• Trail wrist extended
• Lead leg rotating externally
• Trail side bend
• Mass lowering (un-weighting)
• Chest opening up

Professional's Prize

Last weekend, young Lee Mitchell took my Pro's prize home. Over 200 players competed and the weather on Friday and Saturday was brilliant, leading to some great scores. 

The overall winner and picking up a TaylorMade M2 Driver was Lee Mitchell with 43pts. Well done Lee!

36 hole Captain's Prize

Pictured below is Irene Reid who ran away from the field in the 36 hole Captain's Prize for the ladies. Irene followed up a 41pts with an even more impressive 42pts for a record total of 83pts to win by 12! Well played Irene. 

Second place went to Bev Russell Browne with 71pts and Joan Sinclair took 3rd with 69pts. The best gross went to Claire Robinson with 42 gross pts while Joan Sinclair recorded the only two on the Thursday to collect £38. Joan Bell and Eileen McKay shared the twos pot on Tuesday each collecting £23.50 each. Congrats to all ladies in the prizes.

Junior Competition Result

Congratulations Scott McQuat who won the Junior Competition with 33 points, winning on countback from Thomas Kane. 


 

Scotty Cameron Putter Fitting Day

On Tuesday 6 members who had booked a fitting slot with the Scotty Cameron team had a very enjoyable day. Every Putter that Scotty Cameron produces was on show and the expert advice given by Peter was appreciated by all. Images below show the products on offer.

Great Shot Walter

Here's Walter Ferguson having his golf ball handed back to him on the 9th green last Saturday. Walter performed the skill of hitting his ball from the 9th into my Pro Shop, ending up beside the counter!

I have taken stock of 12 dozen limited edition U.S Open number 69 Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls. 

Why number 69? Well, Titleist are celebrating that the Pro V1 or Pro V1x has been the number one used ball in the U.S Open for the 69th consecutive year. Quite an achievement. You can play with these unique golf balls for the price of £42 per dozen.
