Sunday Sweep Result

First place - Maurice Woods (43 points), second place - Ross Latimer (40 points) and in third place - Paul Bryans (37 points).

The twos club paid out £8 each and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. A reminder that the Sunday Sweep will be played over 18 holes off the yellow tees, and from next Sunday, 23 April will be handicap qualifying. You can enter the Sunday Sweep at any time of the day.

April Tankard Result

The first strokeplay event of the year was played this weekend, the April Tankard, and also the Challenge Cup Qualifying. The top 63 players and last year's winner Ben Graham go into the Club Knockout Matchplay tournament. The weather over the weekend was wet and windy, but many good scores were entered. Results were as follows:

Overall Winner - Robin Pooke (67).
Best Gross - James McVicker (70).
Anno Domini Prize - Peter McClelland (71).

Category One - First place - Trevor Price (68) and in second place - Jamie Ashenhurst (70).
Category Two -  First place - Paul Jackson (70) and in second place - Kevin Taggart (70).
Category Three - First place - John Robinson (70) and in second place - Andy Lawson (72).
Category Four - First place - Michael Brown (70) and in second place - Harry Mckee (71).

The twos club paid out £15.27. The cut for the Challenge Cup fell at nett 75 with a few unfortunate 75's not getting into the Matchplay stage.

Wednesday Hat

The Wednesday Hat is now in full flow with over 70 people taking part each week. As the nights stretch, so will the number of holes we play. Running adjacent to the Hat is the 18 Hole Handicap Qualifying Event, both played from the yellow tees. A reminder that if you want to bring along a guest for the Hat, it will only cost him £10 to play. Why not make a night of it and enjoy the great food on offer from Bob's Hat Menu?

Ladies Competition Result

Young Katie Poots ripped it apart on Tuesday shooting a very impressive 44 points to win by 11 shots. Second place went to Patricia Jordan with 33 points and third went to Aileen Wilson with 32 points. The twos club paid out £13 per two. Congratulations Katie, keep up the good work.

Coming Up This Weekend...

This weekend we will be handicap qualifying event. Preferred lies will be restricted to closely mown areas only (anything cut to fairway height or below... fairways, surrounds, tee boxes etc). Can I remind every competitor to enter their score into the computer!

Golf Coaching At Knock

Pictured below is 'the before and after' pictures of Rory Bennett who took a golf lesson in our new Swing Studio over the weekend. Some minor adjustments helped Rory to take the club away better allowing him to deliver the club more consistently to the ball.

Another Runners-up Position!

TeamOn Tuesday I travelled to Concra Wood in Castleblayne to compete in the season ending PGA Alliance event. I finished in second place with a 73 (+1). I played superbly tee to green, but my putts didn't drop. A big congratulations to Harry McKee who came tied for first in the amateurs with a fine 38 points, you played great Harry. The course as ever was spectacular with brilliant putting surfaces. Pictured is my team of Simon Swail, Harry McKee and Colin McKeown on the 13th at Concra Wood.

Tour news

Why You Need Rescue Clubs...

Pictured here is US Tour Star Russell Knox's golf bag. I wanted to share this picture with you all to show that even at the highest level, Russell's longest iron this week was a 5-iron. He was carrying two rescue clubs instead of a 3 or 4-iron. It also shows his perfectly 'gapped' wedges with 4 degrees between each club. Take a look at the 5-iron, it uses a 'Game Improvement' type head. So if these guys are using this type of equipment... should we not?

If you would like to book a gapping session in the Swing Studio, please get in touch here.

Junior news

Junior Sponsorship

Our junior section may be relatively small, but it's packed full of talent. Last week four of our boys took part in the Ulster U16 Championship. Robbie Davidson and Jared Magee qualified for the matchplay stages, with Robbie getting to the Quarter Finals. Young Charlie Parke qualified for the US Kids Tournament by finishing in the top two at Portrush last week, and Katie Poots continues to shoot great scores at Royal County Down. I am asking if anybody would like to sponsor the junior section. Sponsorship will be used for travel costs, coaching, team wear etc.

If you would like to find out more, please get in touch with here.
