Hello golfers,
We'd like to start this week's newsletter by firstly wishing you a Happy New Year, and secondly by asking you a question:
It's an age-old tradition but we're wondering how many of you made a New Year's resolution for 2017?
Don't worry, we're not going to ask you to tell us what it is, but if yours is golf related then remember we're here to help. Regardless of whether you won multiple competitions in 2016 or didn't see your handicap come down once, we'd all like to have a better year on the course in 2017.
With this in mind, don't settle for doing the same again this year as we have lots of ways to help you to enjoy better golf. From a series of lessons to custom fitted equipment to some simple course management tips, come and speak to the team so we can identify areas of your game where you can improve.
Leave us a message here and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
Swing Studio Update
Our new Swing Studio is now up and running and is available for bookings for lessons, club fittings, gapping sessions and of course fun simulator golf course play. I have 16 pre-loaded golf courses from Hazeltine to Royal Troon to name a few. Pictured is Jim Kilpatrick getting 'fitted' for the new Titleist 917 fairway wood.

Weekend Sweeps
There have been a number of sweeps played over the festive period, so I'm not going to bore you all with a list of results. However, last weekend I ran a Weekend Sweep from Friday, 30 December - Monday, 2 January. The weather helped boost the numbers and therefore the prize pot.
The big winner was Ian McClure with 37 points on the better back nine, second place went to Laurence Rankin also 37 points and third was Mark Kelly (also 37 points). Young Jared Magee took fourth with 36 points, Phil Donald was fifth with 35 points, he pipped Simon Black sixth on the countback also on 35 points. Michael Sinclair won the gross prize with 61 (-1) and the twos club paid out £7 each. All monies have been transferred into your pro shop accounts. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you all for participating.
Junior Competition
The juniors continue to have a 9/12 hole competition every Sunday afternoon and I would encourage as many as possible to attend especially as the weather has been so kind. Young Rory Bennett continued his fine run by taking this week's spoils with 25 points and Jared Magee took second with 23 points.
Ladies Competition
Sharon Crozier started the year off with a win in the ladies 12 Holes Stableford on Tuesday with 24 points, she pipped Irene Reid second on the countback (also 24 points) and Joan Bell snatched third with 23 points. Aileen recorded the only two of the day and took home a cool £33.
Woolly Hat Results - Wednesday, 5 January
First place - Don McKeeman (32 points), second place - Garth Russell (31 points, BB9), third place - Brian Ross (31 points), fourth place - Berkeley McMonagle (30 points, BB9) and in fifth place - Norman Johnston (30 points).
The twos club paid out a massive £36 each. Congratulations to all the winners and all monies have been transferred to your pro shop accounts.
Short Game Classes
Final dates and times for my short game classes will be in next week's newsletter and sheets will be put on the noticeboards for members to put their names.
Ladies Swing Studio Presentation Evening
On Thursday, 12 January ar 7.00pm the ladies are invited to attend a presentation by myself to show the workings of our new indoor swing studio. It will be a very informal evening lasting approximately one hour to demonstrate the new facility. There will be questions and answers at the end. I look forward to seeing you in the room (the old Summerfield room upstairs).
Course Update
Pictured below is the sixth tee box and the temporary tee at the third. The green staff are extending both to give a bigger playing area. The idea on the temp tee at the third and sixth is to make it big enough so we don't have to play off a winter mats which nobody enjoys and costs a lot to replace. The green staff will be covering the rubble with hollow core and turf in the next few weeks.
New Arrivals
Recently I have taken stock of some new lined sweaters (pictured). They are fully windproof and will take a 'good shower' and at just £59, they are great value for money. Pop in store to have a look for yourselves.
