Competition news

Weekend Sweep

The weekend's heavy torrential rains didn't help with the turnout for the Weekend Sweep. The brave souls who ventured out let's just say tested their waterproofs in style. Gary Kirkwood with 34 points over the 16 holes was the big winner, he beat Andrew Gibson, also on 34 points, on the better back nine holes. The twos club once again paid out handsomely with each two worth £18. A reminder that I run a 16 hole Stableford 'Weekend Sweep' over Friday, Saturday and Sunday open to all gents, ladies and juniors.

Hat Competition

The final Hat of the year took place last Wednesday night with a great turnout for this time of the year.

Woolly Hat

The Woolly Hat started this Wednesday and was played over 14 holes. Holes 1-13 + 16. First prize went to Stephen McCracken with 31 points he beat Jordan Smyth second on the better back nine holes (also 31 points). Michael Crooks took third place with 30 points pipping John Poots fourth on the better back nine holes (also 30 points). The best gross went to Richard Hamilton with 57 (+3) and the twos club paid out £11 each. Many thanks to all those who competed and congratulations to all the prize winners. All monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. A reminder the Woolly Hat is played anytime on a Wednesday and is open to all categories of members.

Short Game Clinics...

Over the winter months, I am arranging several Short Game Clinics. Each clinic will have approximately six people and will last for 90 minutes. Dates and times will be arranged to suit the players involved and each clinic will cost £10 per person. If you or your friends would like to take part in a clinic, get in touch here or give the pro shop a call on 02890 483925. Remember, the quickest way to reduce that handicap is by improving your short game.

Get a grip...

With the cooler and wetter weather approaching, it's vital that every golfer has a good grip. Pictured is my 'Grip Bar' in the pro shop. Pop in and let me advise and fit you for your next set of grips. Like everything in golf nowadays we have so much choice. I now stock waterproof grips, one wipe with a towel and boom, a dry grip. I also have the ever popular Multi-compound which is half corded to give extra grip in wet conditions. Bring your bag in and I can advise which clubs need re-gripping. As you can see from the photo, I also have a vast range of putter grips. Pop in store to try them out.

Winter Clothing

I have just taken stock of some new winter KGC woolly hats, mitts, rain hats and towels. Keep this in mind for small stocking fillers for Christmas. Members do like the badge on these type of goods, I have a few different colours in each and yes, 'pink towels' for Eve and Helen.

Click and CollectWith the season drawing to an end, many of you have saved up some credit on your pro shop credit. If I don't have what your looking for in store, just ask me as I can get most things within a few working days and at the right price. Ricky travels to FootJoy

At the start of the week I traveled to the FootJoy stockroom to pre-book my FootJoy shoes and gloves for 2017. I also got to have a sneak preview of the Titleist Golf bags. As always the range looked amazing. As the undisputed Number One shoe in golf, you would expect even better quality than last year. The new DryJoy casual (spikeless) is amazingly comfy, the only downside is the small increase in prices mainly to the exchange rate and how weak the pound is against the US Dollar.
