The Sunday Sweep is growing in numbers since it became a handicap qualifying event. We had 35 entries last Sunday with Ken Latimer winning with 40 points. Jordan Perry came second with 39 points beating Andy Lawson (third) also on 39 points on the better back nine. The best gross went to Mark McMurray with a fine 67. Lombard Trophy

On Tuesday, Pat O'Connor (below) and I traveled to the K Club to compete in the Lombard Trophy. We started strongly with three early birdies, but couldn't keep the momentum going. We did finish in the top 10 however and had a great day of banter. Cheers for the day Pat!

Ladies news

Junior OpenBelfast Junior Open

On Monday the Belfast Junior Open was held here at Knock with boys and girls from various clubs playing for the Peter Sinclair Trophy, a silver salver, not to mention some hefty vouchers! The winner with a gross 72 was our very own Ross Latimer (pictured with the trophy). Also pictured from left to right is Lady Captain Sinead, Anne Evans (representing our main sponsor Ulster Bank), Captain Michael and Peter Sinclair.

Junior TeamThe day went very well with many clubs represented. A big thank you to John McCreery, Ken Latimer, David Rush, Robin Pooke and Michael Fieldhouse for their hard work and effort on the day. Many parents commented on how good the course was and how well the tournament was run. Let's hope for even bigger and better event next year. A big thank you also to Philip Davidson, owner of One Stop Mortgage, for his sponsorship on the day and to Titleist for supplying balls for prizes. Also pictured is is Knock members Rory Bennett, Charlie Parke and Ross Latimer who won the team event. Well done lads, great golf.

Members news

Knock GC need your help...

Chris Moutray is trying to organize for as many people as possible to meet on the morning of Thursday, 11 August at 8.45am to help fill in as many old or unrepaired divots on the fairways and tee boxes. Members' help with this exercise would be greatly appreciated, simply turn up that morning and two hours should cover it depending on numbers.

May I also remind members and visitors alike to repair pitch marks on greens. As the course is soft, due to the continuous rain, the greens are even more susceptible to pitch marks. Fixing your own and one other will massively help our putting surfaces.

A few members have been asking why the rough is so high. The simple reason is the wet humid conditions making the grass grow at ridiculous speeds. The rough height has not changed all year, the blades have been set at that height, it's just the grass is growing at a rapid rate. The greenkeepers are trying their best to keep it under control. We just need the rain to stop!

Open Mixed Greensomes

Remember, this Sunday, 7 August we have an Open Mixed Greensomes. Why not arrange for a few friends to come along and enjoy the course? Book a tee time online or give us a call at the pro shop. There are still times available.

Congratulations...

A special mention to Rory Caithness who had a lesson on Friday evening in which we worked on his swing path and club face control. I received a great text from him on Sunday evening telling me he had shot a nett 64 to win the Open Day at Malone Golf Club on the Saturday. I love success stories and appreciated the text message, congratulations Rory.

If anybody would like any help with their game, please give me a call or click here to send us an email.

Junior Summer Coaching

The junior members are getting regular lessons over the summer holidays and I would like to personally thank the generosity of the members who have donated sponsorship money to the junior section this year. I would also like to remind any member that the junior section is always looking for funding which goes towards coaching, kit and prizes. Pictured is Rory Bennett using my putting mirror in a lesson this week.
