Titleist Golf Ball Challenge
After the success of the last few years, I'm pleased to announce that over this weekend's Captain's Day I will be running the ever popular Titleist Golf Ball Challenge. On Friday, 10 June and Saturday, 11 June, if you buy three, six, nine or a dozen Titleist balls and you beat your handicap (37 points or above), you will receive the same number of balls back FREE of charge. All Titleist balls are included in this promotion. I look forward to another successful Captain's Weekend!
Captain's Day
The cabinet is full of the wonderful prizes available for the Captain's Day this weekend. Michael, our Captain, has produced some brilliant ideas. In addition to the normal prizes we will have closest to the pin at the 12th and a long drive prize at the 18th. May I wish everyone good luck and enjoy the day.
June Tankard
Last weekend the men played for the June Tankard in glorious sunshine. The course was playing hard and fast with the greens getting quicker by the hour. The big winner was Tony McElroy with an impressive nett 66. The best gross went to Simon Miskelly with a 70 and the Anno Domini prize went to Mervyn Maitland with a fine nett 68. Full results were as follows:
Division One - First place - Adam Welsh (67) and in second place - Richard Hamilton (68, bb9).
Division Two - First place - Peter Waddell (67) and in second place - Brian Ross (68).
Division Three - First place - David White (68) and in second place - John Ashenhurst (71).
Division Four - First place - Adam Magill (68) and in second place - Norman Johnston (71, bb9).
The twos paid out £14.96 each and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts.
Sunday Sweep
This week's Sunday Sweep was won by Andrew Hingston with 38 points, Paul Bryans took second place with 36 points on the better back nine from Mark McKee also on 36 points. The twos club paid out £8.50 per two and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. A reminder that the Sunday Sweep is open to all members gents, ladies and juniors and is an 18 hole Stableford Competition.
Junior Competition
Young Katie Poots returned from her successful trip to Gullane in Scotland to win this weekend's junior competition with 41 points. Matthew Tumlinson snatched second with 36 points on the better back nine from Thomas Kane in third. Katie finished in the top 10 over in Gullane last week in the European qualifier of the U.S Kids Golf Championship. Congratulations Katie and keep up the great work.
Lady Captain's Day
Lady Captain's Day on Tuesday went off brilliantly. Pictured is Lady Captain Sinead Murray with husband Jim. The weather turned out brilliantly and the course was exceptional. The overall winner was Eileen McKay with 38 points and the best gross with 24 points went to Joanne Greggan. Full results were as follows:
Section A - First place - Sharon Crozier and in second place - Claire Robinson.
Section B - First place - Pauline Cook and in second place - Linda McWhinney.
Section C - First place - Pamela Brockerton and in second place - Hilary Graham.
Congratulations to all the winners and I hear the evening bash was very successful. May I wish the Lady Captain a success with the rest of her year.
News from the Greenkeepers
The green staff worked on the practice green and bunker area to the right of the first hole this week. As the photo shows, the bunker has been dug out with new sand placed in it. This gives us two short game areas to practice from, pop up and have a look next time you are around the club.
Summer is here...
What a difference a few months makes. Sitting in my pro shop in March it would have been hard to believe we would be using the sprinkler system this year! The sprinklers have been in use every morning this week to stop them burning up.
Entertainment for Saturday, 18 June
For one night only at Knock Golf Club. The fabulous acoustic solo performer "Barry Waller" is playing live on Saturday, 18 June from 7.30pm till 11pm. Music will feature classic rock and an "outside the box" playlist. You just have to hear this guy perform. There is no cover charge, no ticket required. This is just simply great club entertainment on a Saturday night.
