Competition news

Pro Sweep

It was a tight affair at the top this week in the 13 hole stableford played over Saturday and Sunday (the course was closed on the Friday). Three players shot 27 points with the placings being determined on the countback. Ronan Henry took top spot on the better back nine from the bang-in-form Ian Killen, second, who beat Phil Donald into third on the better back six holes. Fourth place went to Peter Armstrong on 26 points (not bad with that swing), who pipped a group of players on his better back nine score. The best gross went to young Ben Graham who shot 51 (+1). The twos club paid out £9.50 each and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. Congratulations to all the winners and let's hope for at least a 16 hole competition this weekend.

Woolly Hat

The Woolly hat on Wednesday was played over 13 holes and again 27 points was the magic number. Ronnie Andrews beat Robin Pooke into first place on the better back three holes and Simon Swail snatched third prize with 25 points. The big winner of the day was Gary Ewing who picked up £40 for having the only two of the day... Congrats to all the winners and thanks for participating.

Winter League

This week's Winter League (week nine) results were as follows:

First place - M. Woods, second place -R Hodgett, third place - M. Matthews, fourth place - D. Wilson, fifth place - A. Charles, sixth place - D. Quinn, seventh place - A. Finlay and in eighth place - J. Kilpatrick.

The twos club paid out £16 each and all monies have been paid into your Pro Shop accounts. Congratulations to all the winners

Pros news

PitchmarksPitchmarks!

Pictured is our 16th green. On Thursday morning I went out and placed a yellow ball on every pitch mark I could find. The sad thing is I ran out of yellow balls and I only covered the front two thirds of the green. With the season only a few weeks away and the course still very soft. PLEASE repair your pitch marks (and one other) if everyone did this it will vastly improve our putting surfaces during the season ahead. A pitchfork should be in every golfers pocket whilst on the course if you don't have one pop into the shop and see me.

Left Below Right

I am sure many of you watched the Cadillac Championships over the weekend, and will have been impressed with Rory's much improved putting. He has changed his putting grip to a "LEFT BELOW RIGHT" hold on the club. You will also see that Jordan Spieth, and Danny Willett putt with this style. These players are helping to firm up their hands during the stroke, and by creating a straight left arm, hand and then into the shaft, they are certainly locking the wrists better. This method also squares the shoulders up better, as the left arm is lower.

If you are struggling with your putting, call in or contact us here and we will help you try this putting style out.

What do you get when you combine a desire to improve your golf and an owner of a rather large van?

A GOLF NUT! Pictured is Stephen Finlay with his newly purchased Explanar, a brilliant coaching aid. Very rarely have I been upstaged with swing aids on my way to a lesson but this time I tip my hat. In all seriousness it was great to spend time with Stephen using his Explanar, I hope he enjoyed it and I will be checking out his results with interest in the forthcoming season!

Shop news

Scotty Cameron putters

Another great win for Adam Scott at the weekend. His pressure putt at the last would suggest he has overcome his need for a long putter. The Scotty Cameron he is using to great effect is a prototype but to view the rest of the range from Scotty Cameron Titleist putters pop into the pro shop as we now have a wide range of Scottys available to look at. Your putter is the most important club by a mile so why not treat yourself ?

FootJoyNew arrivals...

The new apparel from FootJoy is starting to land in store. Pictured is the new designs and colours available. I will have most of the new clothing out by next week so pop in and have a sneak peak. As always the FootJoy shirts have a great collar and they wash like a ribbon. I will have all sizes and colours in stock.

Click and Collect

Golf Care

Picture this…

Your ball bouncing through the club car park, causing significant damage! Cars can be easily repaired at a price, but the situation could be a whole lot worse if you strike a fellow golfer, or passer-by. We want our members to be covered against such perils – and there are many more, such as theft and loss of golf club subscription - so speak to us about getting covered with Golf Care.
