Hello golfers,

I'm back from my honeymoon well rested and ready to go straight into the new season ahead. It's hard to believe but the golfing season is not far away. I got home on Tuesday night after traveling 25 hours to witness yet another downpour. When is it going to end?

A huge highlight of my trip away was to attend the Singapore Open played at the wonderful Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore. I had the privilege to follow World No.1 Jordan Spieth for his back 9 holes on day two from inside the ropes. It was amazing to see up close with no real crowds just how much he liaised with his caddy. Many players hit it much better than him but as we all know it's not just about striking the ball. His ability to get it up and down is his real quality and proves even at the top level it's all about the short game, short game, short game! Winter League

We managed to get week six of the modified Winter League played this week. Results for the 9 hole competition are below:

First place - Andy Jones (22 points), second place - Joe McGuire (22 points), third place - Sam McLaughlin (21 points), fourth place - Richard Buller (21 points), fifth place - Joe Montgomery (21 points), sixth place - Frank McGrath (20 points), seventh place - Norman Johnston (20 points) and in eighth place - David K Wilson (20 points). The twos club paid out £11.90 for this event.

Congratulations to all of the winners and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. 

Pro Sweep

The weekend Pro Sweep was reduced to the Sunday only as the course was closed on Friday and Saturday. The big winner over the 10 holes open was Sam Lemon with 25 points. John Mercer was second with 23 points, Ian McClure picked up third with 22 points and Simon Swail was fourth with 21 points. You will be pleased to hear Sammy Lemon has been cut again for all future sweeps and Woolly Hats from 18 to 16. Sammy has had a great run of form stretching back to November! Congratulations to all the prize winners and all winnings have been added to your pro shop accounts.

Ladies Stableford

The ladies played a 9 hole stableford competition on Tuesday, 16 February with Ann Morrison taking the spoils with 17 points, she pipped Pauline Cook into second with 16 points and third place went to Vivien Allen on 15 points (better back 9). Sharon Crozier had the only two paying out £26. Congratulations to all the prize winners and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts.

Thursday Sweep

I ran a Thursday Sweep at the request of the Wednesday players because the course was closed on Wednesday. It was a 10 hole stableford competition played on temp greens due to the heavy frost. Young Robbie Davidson snatched victory with a rather impressive 27 points from second placed Hugh Kirkwood who had 26 points. The twos club paid out £8 and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts.

 

Captains for 2016

Whilst I was away the new men and lady Captains and Vice-Captains where announced. As so many of the members haven't been about due to weather and course closures, I thought I would inform you all of who's who for 2016.

The new Captain of Knock for 2016 is Micheal Browne and his Vice is Frank McGrath. The gents President (as last year) is Kenneth Graham. The new Lady Captain for 2106 is Sinead Murray and her Vice is Alison Sinnamon. The Lady President for 2016 is Rosemary Hamilton.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate the two new Captains. I know Micheal and Sinead will both do a great job and will bring a lot to the role. As always if there is anything I can do or help you with, feel free to give me a buzz..... Mr Captain you where right, Sentosa Golf Club was amazing thanks for the tip!

Are you ready for the season ahead?

Before the start of the season check your golf shoes. Do they need re-spiked? I have all spikes in stock and provide a quick turnaround or if possible a while you wait service. A good grip and footing is essential for good golf, not to mention preventing a tumble. Leave your shoes in for me to have a look and I can check your spikes for you.

I would ask all members to check their golf grips also. Grips are the only contact we have with the club and are also vital to good golf. Pop in store to get professionally fitted FREE of charge and to have a look and feel of the many variety of golf grip on the market today. It's amazing how new grips can feel and the confidence they can give you!
