Handicap allowances are changing...
The handicap governing body, CONGU, has changed the handicap allowance for Betterball competitions (such as our Summerfield Cup) from this year, moving from 3/4 allowance to 90%. Sounds daunting but below is a chart that we hope will help you (basically take 10% off and round up or down) e.g. handicap 17 - 10% (1.7) = 15.3 = 15.
5 handicap - no shots lost.
6 - 15 handicap - one shot lost
16 - 25 handicap - two shots lost
26 - 35 handicap - three shots lost … and so on

This week's Woolly Hat was played over 13 holes with Ronnie Andrews the runaway winner collecting the spoils with an impressive 31 points. Second place went to the ever consistent Des McCausland with 27 points. The twos club paid out £9 per two and all monies have been added to your pro shop accounts. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks for participating!
So what is going on with the Winter League?
Due to the adverse weather we have been experiencing and it's effect on the course, we have been obliged to change the format of the competition for the remainder of the Winter League.
The competition will be over nine holes each week.
The holes to be played will be advised on the Friday of the relevant week.
The minimum numbers of players to constitute a valid week will be reduced to 100.
On Saturdays when less than 16 holes are open play will be on the basis of a ball in the chute.
All Winter League handicap allowances will be cut in half (will be rounded up).
The Competition will finish after a maximum of 10 weeks valid play. Currently we have completed four weeks. Scores recorded over weeks one to four will count towards final totals.
There will be no high, mid or low section prizes each week but weekly prizes will go from first to eighth place on an overall basis.
The handicaps of winners of prizes one to three will be adjusted each week.
The annual Winter League Dinner will be held on Friday, 1 April 2016.
